It seems Google’s been really busy lately. They just announced on their Blog that they intend to release a new operating system entitled “Chrome OS”. The OS is going to utilize the Linux kernel, feature a brand new windowing system, and “just work”. The OS is designed for netbooks so most of the application support will be handled by web apps, which is great if you have a wireless internet subscription, but seems like it may cause problems for anyone without that (like me).
Anyway, Google jumping into the OS arena should be really good for competition. The OS is supposed to be released in mid-2010. We’ll see where this goes.
