It’s finally here! I’d given up and moved to Photoshop, but I always loved GIMP. I used Linux almost exclusively for quite some time which meant quite a lot of GIMPing. Now that I’m on Windows I generally use Photoshop, but I’ve given 2.7.0 GIMP a shot. There aren’t a lot of noticeable differences right now. That’s probably because they haven’t gotten the menu systems all worked out. This is an alpha release, after all.
Here are some resources that GIMP users might find helpful.

Disclaimer: For those of you who don’t know, all 2.7.x are going to be development releases. Meaning that anything starting in 2.7 will be unstable. GIMP releases all odd number releases (IE 2.1, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7…) as development releases. 2.8.0 will be the stable version of the 2.7.x branch. The latest stable version of GIMP as of this writing is 2.6.7
The best way to test this, by the way, is probably to get on an up-to-date Linux system and compile it from source.

oh, yey! i never would’ve known this was out… i don’t even have
the latest stable version. sigh.
I don’t recommend actually using 2.7.0 except for testing. The
first alpha release is always extremely buggy.
yeah. i just upgraded to 2.6.7… i’ll risk 2.7 when it’s a little
further along.
